Print Stacks Search Items (Lending)

The Print Stacks Search Items page in the ILLiad Staff Web Client allows staff to print pull slips for lending transactions. These pull slips guide staff in locating and retrieving items from the library's collection to fulfill requests from other institutions. This page displays a list of transactions in the appropriate status and provides controls for printing and routing.

Overview

This printing page is located under Lending > Print Stacks Search Items and provides the same functionality as the desktop client's print stacks search process.

Page Structure

The Print Stacks Search Items page displays:

  1. Transaction List - Shows all lending transactions that need items pulled from the stacks
  2. Refresh Button - Updates the list to show current transactions
  3. Print Button - Prints and routes the selected transactions

Transaction List

The transaction list displays key information for each lending request, typically including:

  • Transaction Number (TN)
  • Borrowing institution
  • Title
  • Author
  • Call number
  • Location
  • Request type (loan or copy)
  • Article/chapter information (for copies)
  • Due date or date needed
  • Special instructions or notes

The list automatically includes all transactions in the relevant status that are ready for pull slip printing.

Using the Refresh Button

Click the Refresh button to update the transaction list with the most current data. This is useful when:

  • Multiple staff members are processing transactions simultaneously
  • New lending requests have been imported or added
  • You need to verify that previously processed items have been removed from the list

Using the Print Button

The Print button performs the following actions:

  1. Generates pull slips for the selected transactions
  2. Routes the transactions to the next status in the workflow (typically "In Stacks Searching")
  3. Updates the transaction history

This process works the same way it does in the desktop client.

What Gets Printed

Pull slips typically include:

  • Transaction details for staff reference
  • Call number and location information
  • Bibliographic information
  • Borrowing institution details
  • Request type and shipping method
  • Specific pages or chapters needed (for article requests)
  • Copyright or licensing information
  • Due dates and special handling instructions

Workflow

Typical workflow for using Print Stacks Search Items:

  1. Navigate to Lending > Print Stacks Search Items
  2. Review the list of transactions
  3. Click Refresh if needed to ensure you have the most current list
  4. Click Print to generate pull slips and route transactions
  5. Use the printed pull slips to locate items in the stacks
  6. Retrieve the items or scan/photocopy the requested materials
  7. Update the transaction status after searching (using the Update Stacks Search Results page)

Tips for Efficient Processing

  • Sort pull slips by call number or location before going to the stacks
  • Print pull slips in batches at optimal times based on your lending volume
  • Keep print supplies stocked to avoid interruptions
  • Verify printer settings before beginning a large batch
  • Use location grouping when possible to minimize travel time in the stacks
  • Separate loan requests from copy requests for different processing workflows
  • Mark pull slips clearly if items cannot be found for follow-up
  • Check for rush requests that may need priority handling

Relationship to Desktop Client

This web-based page provides the same functionality as the desktop client's Print Stacks Search Items feature for Lending. Staff can choose which interface to use based on their workflow preferences and access needs.
