ILLiad Staff Web Client Overview

The ILLiad Staff Web Client is a modern, responsive web interface that complements the traditional Windows client. It provides library staff with the ability to process a focused set of interlibrary loan tasks from a web browser, without installing the Windows client on every machine.

What is the Staff Web Client?โ€‹

The Staff Web Client is a browser-based application that provides core ILLiad functionality without requiring software installation. This first release focuses on the day-to-day processing tasks handled most often by circulation staff and student workers, and it runs alongside โ€” not in place of โ€” the Windows client. It offers a streamlined interface that works on desktops, tablets, and modern mobile browsers.

Key Benefits
  • No Installation Required: Access ILLiad from any computer with a modern web browser
  • Responsive Design: The interface adapts to tablets and smaller screens
  • Cross-Platform: Runs in the browser on Windows, Mac, Linux, and mobile operating systems
  • Always Up-to-Date: Centrally deployed, so staff always run the currently deployed version
  • Accessibility: Designed with accessibility in mind โ€” see the VPAT

Feature Comparisonโ€‹

The Staff Web Client focuses on core processing workflows while the Windows client remains necessary for advanced administrative tasks and external integrations.

Using Both Clients

Many libraries use both clients together โ€” the Web Client for daily processing and circulation, and the Windows client for administrative tasks and external integrations.

Browser Requirementsโ€‹

The Staff Web Client requires a current version of a modern web browser, with JavaScript enabled:

  • Google Chrome
  • Microsoft Edge
  • Mozilla Firefox
  • Safari (macOS and iOS)

Keep your browser on a release still supported by its vendor โ€” staying current is the requirement, not a particular version number. The interface is responsive, so these same browsers work on tablets and phones.

Internet Explorer Not Supported

Internet Explorer is not supported. Windows users should use Microsoft Edge or another modern browser.

Quick Start Guideโ€‹

1. Access the Web Clientโ€‹

Navigate to your institution's ILLiad Staff Web Client URL. It lives at the /illiadstaff path on your ILLiad server โ€” for example:

https://[institution].illiad.atlas-sys.com/illiadstaff
Bookmark the URL

Save the Staff Web Client URL to your bookmarks for quick access.

2. Loginโ€‹

You'll see the login screen with a Username field, a Password field, and a Logon button. Depending on how your institution has configured ILLiad, you may also see:

  • Multi-factor authentication (MFA): an authenticator-app one-time passcode step
  • Single Sign-On (SSO): a Logon with [provider] option, if configured

See Login Methods for detailed authentication information.

3. Navigate the Interfaceโ€‹

After logging in, you'll see:

  • Left Navigation Menu: Main navigation, which can be collapsed to icons only
  • Top Toolbar: A breadcrumb trail (starting at Home) and contextual actions
  • Main Content Area: Your current workflow
Collapsible Navigation

Use the collapse control in the left navigation menu to shrink it to icons only, or expand it to show labels. The layout also adapts responsively to smaller screens.

4. Choose Your Workflowโ€‹

Select from the main areas in the navigation menu:

  • Search: Find requests, users, or lenders
  • Circulation: Check items in/out
  • Borrowing: Process incoming materials
  • Document Delivery: Handle local requests
  • Lending: Process outgoing requests

Getting Helpโ€‹

Within the Applicationโ€‹

  • Open Help & Support in the left navigation menu (the question-mark item)
  • It links to product documentation and to an About dialog with version information

Training Resourcesโ€‹

Supportโ€‹

  • Contact your ILLiad system administrator for account issues
  • Report technical problems to your IT helpdesk

Working on a tablet

The Circulation page is a single responsive page: enter a transaction number (TN) and press Enter, or use a keyboard-wedge barcode scanner that types the TN for you. It works in the browser on a tablet as well as on the desktop.
