Returning Lending Requests
Sometimes a lending request routes back to your library after you've already seen it — the borrower's lending string cycles around and reaches your symbol again. In earlier versions, ILLiad treated the second appearance as a duplicate of the request already on file and left it alone, so it could be missed. ILLiad 10 recognizes these returning lending requests and re-routes them so staff can act on them.
What happens
When an incoming lending request already exists in ILLiad but has come back around to your library (the lending string now points to your library again), ILLiad:
- Routes the request to the Awaiting Return Lending Request Processing queue so it's back in front of staff.
- Adds a note to the transaction recording that it returned, along with the previous reason for cancellation (or noting that there wasn't one).
- Clears the earlier due date and reason for cancellation so the request can be worked fresh.
What staff see
On the request, the Lending String field shows a warning indicator with the message "Returning Request - Previously processed," so it's clear at a glance that this request has been through your library before. Work the request from the Awaiting Return Lending Request Processing queue as you would any other lending request.
Returning-request detection is built in and always on. There's nothing to configure — qualifying requests are routed to the Awaiting Return Lending Request Processing queue automatically.
