Third-party plugin status in v4.0+
ASpace v.4.0.0 was a significant infrastructure update, the product of the hard but invisible work of refactoring code to use new dependencies and code libraries. Unfortunately, those same improvements will break many pre-existing plugins. This still applies if you are moving into v4.1.0/4.1.1 from any version of ArchivesSpace before 4.0.0.
This is no information about plugin status against 4.1.0, which was released May 5, 2025. This page will be updated with any new information as it is uncovered. This is no information about plugin status against 4.1.1, which was released July 1, 2025. This page will be updated with any new information as it is uncovered.
Please consider watching the webinar Proactive Change Management for Plugins for critical advice related to managing and anticipating the risks associated with plugins. A major disruption such as this is a good time to understand the larger picture of plugins in the ArchivesSpace community. The advice in this webinar is universal and will continue to apply beyond 4.0.
Given the extraordinary disruptions expected from this particular release, Atlas is providing this information about third-party plugins as a courtesy to our customers and the broader community, but this page does come with many caveats:
- First: Thank you plugin developers! You are busy people doing the great work of contributing to the community.
- This page only represents what we know as of the time we know it; any plugin not listed here doesn't indicate anything about its status.
- Codes changes can happen fast. Atlas will do our best to keep this page updated, but there could always be delays in representing the current code bases of all plugins listed. You can see the last updated date at the top of this page.
- The scope of this effort is limited to the experience of our customers and anything we may learn in our research; we cannot and will not review all ArchivesSpace plugins.
- A plugin listed as compatible with ArchivesSpace doesn't mean the plugin is compatible with other plugins, only that it is compatible with core code. You might install a plugin listed as compatible and still have it come into conflict with another plugin.
- Our first priority as hosting providers is the stability of your server, and thus our primary concern is whether a plugin is known to bring your server down or halt functionality; we are admittedly less concerned with whether a plugin is fully functional. Please test all plugins upon updating.
- Atlas will proactively uninstall plugins known to be in conflict with the application as part of the update process.
- Atlas Systems does not support or diagnose third party plugins and makes no guarantees about compatibility beyond the experiences we have with updating and the information provided by developers and other users.
- Test all installed plugins immediately upon updating. Any data entered after an update but before identifying a problematic plugin will be lost if Atlas needs to roll back the server.
- Atlas makes no assurance that a similar list will be provided in the future. It is the extraordinary nature of this specific version update that has prompted us to attempt this list.
