Purpose/Scope
Staff see a "Query timeout expired" error in the Electronic Delivery Utility (EDU), sometimes along with a SQL Server "TCP Provider" timeout error. This means the EDU has lost its connection to the ILLiad database. It most often happens after the computer running the EDU has gone to sleep or hibernated, or after Windows has turned off the network adapter to save power.
Resolution
Close and restart the Electronic Delivery Utility. The EDU doesn't reconnect on its own once the connection has been lost.
To keep it from happening again, change these settings on the computer that runs the EDU:
- Set the Windows power plan so the computer never sleeps or hibernates. It's fine for the monitor to turn off.
- Turn off power saving on the network adapter. In Device Manager, open the network adapter's properties, go to the Power Management tab, and clear Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
If the Error Continues
The EDU in ILLiad 9.2 doesn't write a log file. Its only log is the Log tab inside the utility, and that log is cleared when the EDU closes. Before restarting the EDU, copy the log contents:
- Click the Log tab.
- Click in the log, press Ctrl+A to select all, then press Ctrl+C to copy.
- Paste the contents into a text file and save it.
Send the saved log to ILLiad support through a secure drop, along with the full text of the error and the time it occurred. Don't attach the log to an email or ticket.
