Odyssey Coversheets

Odyssey can be configured to add a cover sheet to all Borrowing or Doc Del documents delivered to your patrons via Odyssey. ILLiad users often design the cover sheet to include contact information and copyright information.

Setting Up Coversheets​

  1. Create a .pdf document with the information that you would like to include on the cover sheet.
  2. Save the document in the folder designated in the OdysseyPDFCoverSheetLocation key (see Customization Manager key information below).
  3. Add the name of the cover sheet file to the OdysseyPDFCoverSheetFileName key (see Customization Manager key information below).

This document needs to be saved on the ILLiad server. It cannot be saved on local workstations. If you are hosted by OCLC or Atlas Systems, please contact customer service to have your Odyssey cover sheet placed on your server.

Cover Sheets and PDF Accessibility​

Beginning in ILLiad 10.0, when Odyssey Manager adds a cover sheet to a delivered PDF, the merged document keeps the accessibility of the original PDF. If the document you deliver is an accessible, remediated PDF, the copy your patron receives — cover sheet and all — stays accessible.

The merged file retains the source PDF's tagged (structured) content, primary language, and title (along with author, subject, keywords, and XMP metadata), and the document is set to display its title to assistive technology. A tagged cover sheet keeps its own tags as well.

The cover-sheet merge preserves the accessibility that is already in the document you deliver — it does not add tags, a language, or a title to a document that does not have them. To deliver an accessible document, start from an accessible (remediated) source PDF.

What changed

Previously, merging a cover sheet dropped the source document's tagged structure, primary language, and title, so a remediated PDF arrived untagged and without a language or title. Those properties are now carried through the merge.

Customization Keys​

All of the following keys are found in the Customization table and can be accessed in the ILLiad Customization Manager under Odyssey | Coversheets.
